RAZ-32 pathways provide students a variety of opportunities to gain real-world work experiences

The goal is to bridge the gap between classroom learning and the practical demands of the workplace, helping students develop valuable skills, gain insights into their chosen careers, and build professional networks.

Three Work-Based Learning Options:

School-Based Enterprise is a business or entrepreneurial activity operated by or within the school by the students in a RAZ-32 pathway. Students are directly involved in the day-to-day operations, learning through hands-on experience. Students develop teamwork, problem-solving, and leadership skills. RAZ-32 provides the following school-based enterprise opportunities:

Employer Work-Based Learning is an option for RAZ-32 eligible second-year students to work with an area employer to utilize technical skills already learned in the classroom while continuing their learning from experts in the career field. WBL experiences generally have a beginning and ending date and can be paid or non-paid experiences.

Apprenticeships are an employer-driven work placement that provides students with on-the-job training focused on mastering skills needed to succeed in a specific occupation. As apprentices, students are paid a competitive wage, receive guidance from a workplace mentor, and work toward earning credentials that support their ongoing employment and career growth with the employer, continuing even after graduation. RAZ-32 Pathways that offer Apprenticeship opportunities include:

 


Questions About Work-Based Learning

  • Eligible seniors will follow a schedule that includes CTE pathway classes on designated days to complete Capstone and graduation requirements, and early release on other days for their Work-Based Learning (WBL) experience with an employer.
  • A Training Plan—developed by the school, student, and workplace supervisor—outlines job tasks, learning goals, and skill development in the workplace.
  • Work schedules may fall outside regular school hours, including evenings, weekends, or school breaks, allowing flexibility for both the student and employer.

Your CTE Instructor will review the following criteria to determine if you are eligible for an Employer WBL or Apprenticeship experience:

  • School Attendance: Student has maintained regular school attendance.
  • Professional Work Ethic: Student has demonstrated a professional work ethic in his or her attitude, speech, and behaviors during the first year of the CTE pathway.
  • Grades Earned in CTE Pathway Courses: Student has a minimum of a “C” average in the CTE Principles, Concentrator A, and/or Concentrator B courses.
  • College Credits Earned: Student has earned aligned dual credits in the CTE courses completed.
  • Credentials Earned: Student has taken/passed industry certification examinations, if applicable.
  • Transportation: Student can provide their own transportation to/from the work location.
